A mafia don in Italy was fed alive to pigs by rival gangsters to take revenge for a 60-year-old feud involving the death of a mob Godfather, it has been revealed.

Francesco Raccosta was first beaten with iron bars and thrown in a sty, where the animals devoured him as he kept on begging for help, the Mirror reported.

A recording, which was made in a huge undercover police operation, has revealed that crime boss Simone Pepe was behind the attack.

The recording has Pepe bragging on the phone that it was very satisfying to hear Raccosta scream, and that he didn't see a "f******" thing left and the pigs could certainly eat.

The men were part of warring clans in the brutal 'Ndrangheta mafia of Calabria, southern Italy.

Pepe has admitted to have killed Raccosta and three other murders and has said that he had to avenge the death of mob Godfather Domenico Bonarrigo.

The details have emerged after a police swoop where 20 people were held and millions of euros were seized in Calabria and Rome.
