England lost 1-2 to Italy in their Group D FIFA World Cup opener in Manaus despite making a confident start in the match.
Italy midfielder Claudio Marchisio scored first for his side in the 35th minute to provide his side with the lead, but England striker Daniel Sturridge provided the equaliser two minutes later as he converted strike partner Wayne Rooney's cross.
According to the CNN, with both sides fighting to get the upper hand over the other one, Italy eventually won the match, thanks to their striker Mario Balotelli, who scored the winner for his national side just 5 minutes into the second half.
Italy coach Prandelli praised his midfielders for their role in a famous victory saying that he is clearly satisfied with this victory as this match against England was very difficult, as they are a very good team and added that Italy had a very good basis in midfield.
