J.J. Abrams has confirmed that he would not direct the next installment of the sci-fi franchise 'Star Trek.'

Abrams told Collider that this decision has been "a little bittersweet" for him but he would be producing the movie, the New York Daily News reported.

The 47-year-old director, who is busy with his current project 'Star Wars: Episode VII', said that he is certain that the next director would be someone who is going to keep the cast and crew in good hands.

Abrams, who recently launched the DVD/Bluray version of his 'Star Trek Into Darkness,' said that he feels lucky to have been part of the franchise and it seems like the right time to let someone else take charge in their own way.

He said that the team wants to hire someone who is going to bring their own sensibility and he is very excited to see what comes next.

Abram added that he is jealous of the person who would be directing the upcoming 'Star-Trek.
