Contractual teachers on Tuesday staged a protest against the Mufti Mohammad Sayeed-led PDP-BJP coalition government in Jammu and Kashmir, demanding the restoration of their jobs and a policy for their future.

The protest, which was held at Pratap Park in Lal Chowk, left many injured.

"We were given a job last year according to the Cabinet order 182 for session 2013-2014. We were given a job for two months, after that we were disengaged," said Qaisar Yusuf, President, Jammu and Kashmir Temporary Teachers Association.

"PDP and BJP had promised that they will provide youth with jobs. We want this government to provide us continuation in this job and make a policy for our future," he added.

Yusuf asserted that the contractual teachers would continue their strike if their demands are not fulfilled.
