People's Democratic Party (PDP) leader Subhash Sharma's son Sharu opened fire at Babu Singh, a former minister and Congress candidate from Kathua, last night.

The police have arrested Sharu from his residence.

"Police round-up weapons, but only in cases where they suspect someone who has had a criminal record in the past or when there is a possibility of someone being involved into some kind of crime, not otherwise. But now after this incident, we will try to look into this matter and will begin the round-up," said Kathua's Additional Deputy Commissioner G. Prasanna Ramaswamy.

Meanwhile, the Congress leader's nephew Aman Jasrotia, who is an eye-witness demanded stern action against the guilty.

"I am very scared and surprised at the fact that such people exist in society, who can forcefully enter into people's houses and open fire. Who has authorized them to use a revolver? Their revolver must be seized," he said.

This incident has shocked the local residents, who have previously also often complained of misbehavior on Sharu's part.
