The Jammu and Kashmir State Assembly on Monday asked former chief of army staff, General V.K. Singh, to appear before it on January 9, 2014, according to a television channel report.
It maybe recalled that in October this year, the Speaker of the Jammu and Kashmir State Assembly Mubarak Gul had issued a notice-cum-summons to General V.K. Singh to explain his position on his controversial statement about payoffs to politicians in the state.
"I will summon him (Singh) very soon," Gul had said then amidst uproar in the assembly, which saw the opposition People's Democratic Party storming the well of the House and demanding the speaker set a time-frame for it.
Gul had then refused to spell out the time-frame for summoning General Singh, who had alleged that money was being paid to ministers in Jammu and Kashmir for getting certain jobs done. He only said that a proper procedure would be followed.
Amidst an uproar in October, the state assembly passed a unanimous resolution demanding a credible probe into the allegations made by General Singh.
The notice was sent to General Singh on October 24, and he subsequently confirmed receiving it.
He said then: "I have received the letter and I am working on sending a reply to it. I am sure that after they receive my reply, things will cool down completely.
