Senior BJP leader and MLA Jagdish Mukhi filed his nomination on Thursday for the Speaker's post in the Delhi assembly, putting a rest to sepculations over his candidature.
He will be contesting against Aam Aadmi Party's M.S. Dhir. Dr Harsh Vardhan, BJP's legislative party leader, will issue a whip to party MLAs asking them to vote against confidence motion.
The BJP has always contested the electon for the Speakers's post. The party has decided, so I am filing the nomination," Mukhi said.
The BJP declined to allow Mukhi to become "pro tem" to oversee the swearing in of new MLAs and the confidence vote of the incoming government, as the party wanted him to contest for the Speaker's post.
Earlier, Mukhi had declined to be the pro-tem Speaker of Delhi Assembly.
The decision in this regard was taken by Mukhi after he received a letter from Delhi Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung about his appointment as a pro-tem Speaker in Delhi assembly.
Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government will seek a vote of confidence on January 2 on the floor of Delhi Assembly.
