Senior BJP leader and BJP-SAD candidate for the Amritsar Lok Sabha seat Arun Jaitley today gave a cautious response to the demand for a memorial for victims of Operation Blue Star in the Golden Temple complex here.

Taken aback when asked what was his stand on the building of such a memorial, Jaitley was at first evasive, but then said: "My stand on the memorial is the same as that of state BJP, and I need not to reiterate it".

He said the BJP is against honouring terrorists or praising them and their acts.

When asked him about honouring the relatives of the terrorists, he said: "We are not in favour of honouring of any kind of terror."

When prodded further, he pointed towards State BJP president Kamal Sharma said:"It is not an issue and we should not rake it up."

Jaitley, however, gave a clean chit to the SAD(Badal) for showing sympathy to the terrorists, saying that the SAD and the BJP were victims of terrorism in Punjab, and many of their leaders, had fallen to bullets.

"The era of peace has been ushered in Punjab under the under the leadership of the SAD-BJP," he said.
