SAD-BJP candidate for the Amritsar Lok Sabha seat and senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley today appealed for support from the Christian community.

Jaitley said that the Amritsar constituency comprised of people coming from diverse religions and cultures, and he wanted to represent every one of them in Parliament.

Accompanied by state BJP chief Kamal Sharma, state cabinet Minister Anil Joshi and vice president Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina, Jaitley asked Christian community members to support him and, promised to take up their issues in Parliament.

He said the BJP respects minority communities and understands their concerns, which would be addressed at a priority level.

Jaitley said he had visited churches the world over, but was actually bowled over by the architectural style of churches in Amritsar.

"I am impressed by the heritage churches in the city of Amritsar. There are part and parcel of the rich cultural heritage of the city," he said, adding that he had faith that he would get full support from the Christian community in the city.

While talking to community leaders, including Father Peter and Bishop Dimpi, Jaitley said there is a wave in favour of the NDA in the country, and against the Congress which is neck deep in the corruption and misgovernance.
