Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has begun presenting the budget proposals for fiscal 2015-16 of the NDA Government.
Jaitley began reading out his budget proposals at 11.01 a.m. with the permission of Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan.
The initial announcements made were greeted by the treasury benches with a thumping of tables.
Earlier, Jaitley before arriving in Parliament to present the budget proposals, called on President Pranab Mukherjee.
Jaitley will present his first full-year budget in Parliament at 11 am today, seeking to put the country on a path of 7-8 percent growth over the next two years.
The 2015/16 budget is being billed as a "make-or-break" event for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's eight-month-old government.
The 2015-16 budget is expected to give a big push to Prime Minister Modi's 'Make in India' campaign, with tax breaks and other incentives for several sectors.
