A missionary girl's school in Nagrakata block of West Bengal's Jalpaiguri district has allegedly received four threatening letters since March 11 from unknown persons demanding that the school be shut down.
Authorities of the St Capitonia Girl's High School lodged a complaint at the local police station on the basis of these letters.
"A neighbour school of St Capitonia informed that the sisters of the St Capitonia School received several threat letters from their hostel compound stating that they will burn the Church," said Father of neighbouring St. Merij Boy's High School.
Police on the other hand, said they had deployed personnel to normalize the law and order situation.
"We were informed that the school authority got several threat letters and for that we deployed police to normalize the law and order situation. But till today no one is ready to say anything in front of the media," said Bikash Roy, Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI), Jalpaiguri police headquarter.
This incident is the latest in a series of attacks against Christian institutions across the country.
Earlier on Tuesday, Mumbai Police arrested four people for hurling stones inside the St. George Catholic Church compound in New Panvel of Navi Mumbai. The attackers had damaged the glass enclosure of the statue of Saint George before speeding away on a motorcycles.
