Counsels for death row war criminal and Jamaat-e-Islami leader Muhammad Kamaruzzaman will address the media this afternoon to protest against Law Minister Anisul Huq's "misinterpretation" of the Jail Code, saying that Kamaruzzaman will get seven days for seeking mercy after hearing the Supreme Court verdict.
The Supreme Court on November 3 upheld his death penalty for his crimes against humanity during the Liberation War in 1971.
They said a convict can file mercy petition in seven days from the day he receives warrant of execution order from the jail authorities.
The defence will hold the briefing at 1 p.m. at the Supreme Court Bar Association auditorium, reports the Daily Star.
