A Jamaican footballer has reportedly been handed a nine-month ban for doping, while the doctor who administered the substance was suspended for four years by global football governing body FIFA.
In a resurgence of the doping crisis tainting Jamaican sports, Jamaican midfielder Jermaine Hue, who has made more than 40 appearances for the national team, received the ban after he tested positive for a banned substance dexamethasone.
According to CNN, the team doctor, Carlton Fraser, however received a stronger punishment from FIFA, which hit him with a four-year punishment over his 'administration' of the corticosteroid.
The report mentioned that Hue, who has spent most of his career with Jamaican football club Harbour View, and Fraser were provisionally banned in August after Hue tested positive following Jamaica's World Cup qualifier at Honduras in June.
The report further said that Fraser was a personal friend of the late Jamaican singing legend Bob Marley and also treated the reggae great.
