Janata Party merges with BJP ahead of 2014 LS polls

In a significant move ahead of the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Janata Party chief Subramanian Swamy on Sunday merged his political outfit with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

The announcement in this regard was made by Swamy and BJP President Rajnath Singh after the two leaders met at the latter's residence here.

Rajnath Singh on his part welcomed Swamy's move to merge with the BJP, and said that it would further strengthen the fold.

"Subramanian Swamy has been a part of Bharatiya Jan Sangh. Swamy has decided to merge Janta Party with the BJP. We welcome Swamy on joining the BJP fold," he said.

 

Former BJP President Nitin Gadkari and Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha, Arun Jaitley, were also present during the meeting.
