In order to meet the rapid growth in electricity driven by a growing economy and expanding industrial base, Vietnam has decided to introduce nuclear energy.

A developing country with a population of 92.5 million, Vietnam has selected Japan as its partner.

The government issued a master plan specifying the project of building nuclear power plants, as the first time in Vietnam and South East Asia.

Electric Power University (EPU) in Hanoi, is one of the six universities in Vietnam that are authorized to provide human resource training in nuclear power generation.

The University has opened the Department of Nuclear Power in 2010 where students are learning basic knowledge required for nuclear power generation.

It's a good chance for me to approach to new technology of PWR," said Kieu Dinh Luong, a student at the Department of Nuclear Power, Electric Power University .

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries is one of the first partners which effectively cooperates and supports Electric Power University and provide nuclear engineering lecture.

The company supports for building the curriculum, dispatches an instructor with rich practical experience to provide the wide range of lectures from the basic knowledge to the practical skills.

This Year is the fourth year of nuclear engineering training, 60 nuclear engineering major students took part in one week lecture course from January 5.

"I would like to express my sincere thanks to Mitsubishi Heavy Industries for the corporation and support so far. We wish to continue receiving support and training courses, equipment support," said ?? TH? NGUY?T MINH, Head of Department of Nuclear Power, Electric Power University.

Kenichi Sonoda, Vice President, Vietnam and EPC Projects, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd added, "Human resource development is very important for the countries starting the nuclear generation program. Japan and our company has a lot of experiences in this area since 1970's and we are looking forward to the days when we can work together with those students to build nuclear power plants in Vietnam."

Recently, "Cool Japan lounge" exhibition was held at AEON Mall Binh Duon Canary in Vietnam by Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, as a part of "Cool Japan World Trial" initiatives.

It aims to promote the overseas advancement of Japanese companies and products to foreign countries from cross-industry and cross-government standpoints.

About 30 small to medium Japanese enterprises participated in the event, appealing their products and services to the Vietnamese consumer at AEON Mall.

"I felt that Vietnamese people have very good impressions about Japan. I hope them to be interested in Japanese products at this event, and hopefully Vietnamese people would like our products and would make good business opportunities," said Tomohiro Shigeoka, Commerce and Information Bureau, Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, Japan.

On the day before this event, a seminar event for "Cool Japan World Trial" was held in Ho Chi Minh City.

AEON VIETNAM Corporation hosted the business seminar with introduction of their business experience and strategy in Vietnam.

"Towards to the year of 2020, as we already announced, we are planning to open 20 shopping malls in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City as our core business. I hope that we advance together with you by creating good business opportunities," said Yasuo Nishitohge, General Director, AEON Vietnam Co., Ltd.

In addition, a business matching reception was held by inviting Vietnamese local companies.

"Japan's international expansion strategy started under government's growth strategy includes strengthening of overseas support system for Japanese enterprises and propulsion of Cool Japan initiatives. Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan is actively support the overseas advancement of Japanese companies," said Yoshinori Yakabe Deputy Consul General of Japan in Ho Chi Minh City.

Inside the deep mountains of Hida, Gifu Prefecture in Japan, there is the facility under construction named "KAGRA".

Here, the electric vehicles are actively working in the underground institute of 200 meters deep.

"We are currently standing 200 meters underground in a tunnel shaped structure. Two 3 km long straight tunnels are connected in L-shaped form. Here, we are going to build a physics research facility to observe a phenomenon called gravitational waves," said Shinji Miyoki, Institute for Cosmic Ray Research, The University of Tokyo.

Inside this huge underground facility, Nissan's zero-emission electric vehicle "e-NV200" has been actively working as transportation for the engineers.

"The research lab where we usually work is 7 km away from here, but in order to build this telescope, we obviously need to make the trip all the way here. We need a means of transportation, but as you can see, this tunnel is a completely closed space. We needed a transportation vehicle that would not emit any carbon monoxide or carbon dioxide, which are detrimental to human health, so we have been thinking of using electric vehicles for a long time," Added Miyoki.

"KAGRA" is hoped to begin operations in late 2015.
