Prime Minister Modi would discuss the roadmap for India and Japan's global and strategic partnership in the years ahead with his counterpart Shinzo Abe in Tokyo.

The Prime Minister, who arrived at the Osaka International Airport in Kyoto on Saturday for a five-day bilateral visit, earlier in the day visited two prominent ancient Buddhist temples- Toji and Kinkakuji. He also mingled with the common people and tourists there.

Prime Minister Modi also met Kyoto Mayor Daisaku Kadokawa today.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between India and Japan earlier on Saturday to develop Varanasi into a 'smart city'.

The MoU focuses on heritage conservation and cooperation in art, culture and academics. It will also serve as a framework for the smart heritage cities programme.
