As Tokyo continues its large-scale assistance to Myanmar, Japanese Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida has pledged his ongoing support for the latter's development.
During a joint press conference with Myanmar's State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi, Kishida also agreed to help with the country's peace process and national reconciliation.
Apart from assuring Japan's aid for the employment, education, agriculture, infrastructure and financial sectors, he said that he would further discuss Myanmar's needs with the government before taking action.
Suu Kyi thanked Japan for the assistance.
"I am very happy about Japan's help for Myanmar. I appreciate the kindness of Japan's citizens on behalf of Myanmar's citizens," the Myanmar Times quoted Aung San Suu Kyi as saying.
The United Nations also thanked Japan for its US 31.7 million donation to their operations in Myanmar upon the foreign minister's arrival here.
The funding will be used predominantly to help vulnerable communities in the country's Rakhine and Chin states. The funds would be going to the Food and Agricultural Organization, the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), the UN High Commissioner for Refugees and the World Food Programme.
