Japanese 'vagina' artist calls to end taboos post release

An artist from Tokyo, who was arrested after emailing a raw image of her vagina to her fans has been released and has urged people to outgrow the perception that female genitalia are taboo or shameful.

Megumi Igarashi said that she believed that this arrest was completely unjust and unreasonable, the Japan Times reported.

The 42-year-old artist asserted that she had always stuck to her artistic principles, which were aimed at toppling the entrenched idea that female genitalia were obscene.

Igarashi further said that she had often wondered why Japanese TV showed edit out slang words for vagina she did not understand why it was considered obscene because it was a part of her body.

 

Igarashi was subsequently held until the Tokyo District Court on Friday annulled her arrest and set her free.
