Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Prakash Javadekar today expressed his condolences on the demise of yoga guru B.K.S. Iyengar, and termed the nanogenarian's demise as a real loss for humanity.

"We condole the death of yoga guru B K S Iyengar. He really made Pune a yoga capital, and more than that, he re-introduced to the world, the power of yoga. He was always conscious about the health of the nation and he was passionate about yoga. He taught millions of people and made trainers out of them who are now teaching yoga the world over. So his life was a yoga mission, and therefore, it is a real loss to humanity. I condole his death and definitely everybody is really grieved by his demise," Javadekar told ANI.

Regarded as one of the world's best-known yoga gurus, Bellur Krishnamachar Sundararaja Iyengar passed away this morning following a recent hospitalization, according to reports. He was 95 and was reportedly suffering from kidney-related problems.

His 1966 book, Light on Yoga, contains detailed instructions on how to perform more than 200 yoga poses.
