Sri Lankan batsman Mahela Jayawardene is hoping to bring an end to his illustrious career by lifting the upcoming World Cup, which gets underway from February 14 in Australia and New Zealand.

Earlier, the veteran batsman had indicated his intention to retire from all forms of the game after the sport's pinnacle tournament.

Jayawardene, who has amassed over 12,500 runs in ODIs, said that they might not have won those two tournaments, but reaching two successive finals showed they played consistently well, Sport24 reported.

Reflecting on this year's World Cup, Jayawardene added that he hopes to win the title this time.

Sri Lanka will open their World Cup campaign against New Zealand on February 14 in Christchurch.
