JD(U) once more demands central grant of special status for Bihar

The party added that the BJP's dislike of former chief minister Nitish Kumar should not prevent them from granting special status to the state

Raking up the demand for the grant of special status for Bihar again, Janata Dal (United) leader Ali Anwar on Tuesday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi is yet to fulfill the aspirations of the people of Bihar.

"The Prime Minister promised special status for Bihar. It's been five months, this is an injustice to Bihar. It is the public's demand. We are not begging for anything," Anwar told ANI.

He also added that the BJP must not let their dislike of former chief minister Nitish Kumar prevent them from granting special status to Bihar.

"The people of Bihar supported them by giving 31 out of 40 seats to them. This is not just the demand of the party, these are the aspirations of the people," Anwar said.

"Nitish was right in saying that the BJP was with us on this issue till recently, but now, they have moved away from their position. Because they are allergic to Nitish Kumar, should they punish the whole of Bihar for that?" he added.

Nationalist Congress Party leader Majid Memon also supported the JD(U)'s stance, saying that Bihar needs special attention.

"Bihar has always been considered as state which needs special attention, Nitish ji's demand is justifiable," said Memon.
