The Janata Dal (United) on Saturday said that the party will contest polls only on those seats where they had been contesting 'traditionally'.

When asked if the JD(U) will contest Gujarat polls in alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), party spokesperson K C Tyagi said, "The party will contest polls only on those seats where we had been contesting traditionally year after year but not in entire Gujarat."

"We want to retain our traditional voters and traditional seats. That's all," he added.

Assembly elections in Gujarat will be held on two phases -- December 9 for 89 assembly seats and December 14 for 93 seats.

Results will be announced for all the 182 seats on December 18 along with Himachal Pradesh polls.
