Disapproving the backing of the United States to India's claim for a permanent seat in the United Nations Security Council, Janata Dal (United) spokesperson Pawan Verma on Tuesday said President Barak Obama has backed India's claim earlier too, but nothing really has happened on the ground.

"I don't believe in carrying these certificates like garlands around our necks, as we want change on the ground," he added.

Verma said, "Every occasion, every leader of the Permanent Five Countries (P5), in some way or the other, say India should be a permanent member and have a greater role in the UNSC. But, is there any change on the ground? I firmly believe that India should not go to the UN supplicant, seeking a permanent membership, but as a rightful claim. Only then will the global community, including P5, will realise that essentially the UNSC of which they are the permanent member is a devalued organisation without the fullest presence of India.
