Jennifer Hudson has revealed that she learned her craft performing with drag queens in gay clubs.

In an interview with V Magazine, the Oscar-winner said that she used to visit gay clubs when she was 16 or 17, and her best friend pretended to be her manager, Metro.co.uk reported.

The 32-year-old singer said that her friend would have business cards made up and would negotiate for me to sing for 25-dollar-a-song.

She said that the amazing drag queens styled her up and down.

Hudosn said that the drag queens would be up at the stage lip-synching and then she'd get up and sing for real - some Whitney Houston or some old-school Shirley Murdock - and she would make all the money.

She said that was like her training, basically.
