New Zealand big-hitting batsman Jesse Ryder was exchanging blows with a blogger on the eve of his nation's World Cup final against Australia and knocked him out in the opening round of a charity bout.

Ryder, who wasn't selected for New Zealand's World Cup squad, knocked out Cameron Slater, best known as the controversial Whale Oil blogger and for being the subject of the Dirty Politics scandal, in the opening round of their charity bout for KidsCan on the undercard of SKY Arena's Super 8 redemption in Christchurch.

However, Ryder's thunder from the victory was stolen soon after when former English cricketer Adam Hollioake jumped into the ring to call out Ryder for his next fight, Stuff.co.nz reported.

Ryder was already in the changing rooms when Hollioake made the call-out and did not know about it until he was reportedly informed about it backstage.

A surprised Ryder said that it's a bit of a shame, adding that Hollioake shook his hand as he came off actually, insisting that the Englishman should have hung around for a bit.

Earlier in the day, Ryder had joked with Hollioake that fighting him would be a step down for the Englishman's career. Ryder said that Hollioake is a pro and he is just a charity fighter but added that he doesn't know, he might have a think about it.
