The security forces killed three Maoists in an encounter in Daldalia forests of Jharkhand's Giridih district.
Two other ultras were seriously injured in the encounter.
"Getting a tip-off that the rebels had gathered in the jungles, the personnel of CRPF and district police surrounded the area on Friday night," Giridih Superintendent of Police Kranti Kumar said.
"The Maoists opened fired at the police personnel. In the retaliatory action, three Maoists were killed and two others were seriously wounded," he added.
Three weapons, including an SLR, were recovered from the spot.
