Miguel Angel Jimenez has become the first man over the age of 50 to win on the European Tour with a victory in a three-man play-off at the Spanish Open.
Jimenez let a two-shot lead slip before Richard Green triple-bogeyed the 14th hole when one clear. Spaniard Jimenez, Green and Thomas Pieters all eventually finished tied on four under par. On the 18th hole for the second time, Jimenez almost holed a chip for birdie, with par enough for the title, reports the BBC.
Jimenez said that he had no words to describe what winning the title meant to him.
His 27th appearance is a European Tour record for the most number of appearances in an event before winning it for the first time.
He describing the victory as amazing.
Of his 21 victories on the European Tour, 14 have come since he turned 40.
