A 'job and career fair' was recently organised in Nagaland's Dimapur District with the aim of helping youth to hone their skills.

A large number of unemployed youth turned up at the two-day long fair, which witnessed the participation of around 50 reputed companies and vocational institutions

The event inaugurated by Chief Minister T R Zeliang was organised by the Department of Labour and Employment in association with YouthNet.

"There were about 25 vocational training providers and about 25 job employers from various backgrounds like hospitality sector, hotel sector and airlines. We have seen a large number of people walking in the fair and there are as many as 500 employment opportunities. I collected information from some of the stalls and have seen a good response," said Ebibeni Humtsoe, a team leader of YouthNet.

"By attending this fair, I have benefited a lot. I came to know about lots of companies. It will be very helpful for my career in the future," said Scato Swu, a job seeker.

The companies, which participated in the job fair included Wipro, Toyota, Hyundai, VLCC, NIIT, Jet Airways and Pacifist.

The candidates, who got the opportunity to apply for different jobs with these multiple companies, were also shortlisted by the participating firms.

"Today, we have registered 52 candidates already with us and two of them are interested to undergo training in Beauty Spa and hospitality. This is a very good platform for the job seeker and for the youth to know and get themselves trained," said Aheibam Joyshankar Singh, the Regional Manager of O2 Skills.

Nagaland has a very high literacy rate, but there is a large proportion of educated unemployed youth in the state.

Organising such job fairs on a regular basis will help the educated youth to find jobs in reputed firms across the country.
