US Secretary of State John Kerry has said Egypt's military was 'restoring democracy' after President Mohammed Morsi's ouster last month.

In a television interview in Pakistan, Kerry said that the military was asked to intervene by millions and millions of people, all of whom were afraid of descendance into chaos and violence.

According to the BBC, Washington has refused to describe Morsi's removal as a coup.

Kerry also warned against further bloodshed, saying that Washington was very, very concerned about the killing of dozens of pro-Morsi protesters in clashes with security forces, calling it absolutely unacceptable, the report said.

The warning from Kerry comes as thousands of supporters of Morsi have defied new warnings from the military-backed cabinet by continuing their sit-ins.
