The father of Chelsea captain John Terry is reportedly on trial for drunkenly head-butting an Asian-origin man outside a pub and racially abusing him in a dispute over a cigarette.
Edward 'Ted' Terry, who allegedly attacked railway worker Amarjit Talafair last year in March and called him a 'f***ing P***', has however, denied one count of racially-aggravated common assault and one count of racially-aggravated fear or provocation of violence.
According to the Daily Star, Terry senior is also alleged to have threatened cleaner Bakeba Mansuila with a bottle, saying, 'I'll smash it over your head you black c***', although he admitted to starting a confrontation and said that he had been 'acting the goat' after he was arrested.
The father of the former England captain defended himself by saying that he believed he was approached by a man carrying a bottle and was in danger, so disarmed him, adding that he thought his 'aggressor' looked like a 'half-caste'.
The prosecutor said that this is a case about racist threats, racist abuse and alleged that racist violence was directed towards a 'member of the public who happens to be Asian'.
