Angelina Jolie, who recently got her ovaries and fallopian tubes removed to prevent cancer, has got thumbs up from medical experts for her decision to go public with her latest operation and diagnosis.

Dr. Kristi Funk of the Pink Lotus Center said in a statement that they continue to applaud Jolie's willingness to share her journey with the BRCA gene mutation, E! Online reported.

Funk continued that since the original release of Jolie's story, countless women around the world have been made aware of the gene and have been able to explore lifesaving treatment options to lower the risk it poses to their health.

In a New York Times article, titled 'Angelina Jolie Pitt: Diary of a Surgery', the actress stated that her doctors indicated that she should have preventive surgery about a decade before the earliest onset of cancer in her female relatives.

In 2013, the award-winning actress had both breasts removed to cut her risk of breast cancer.
