Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata is likely to miss the rest of the season after undergoing surgery on a groin injury.
A club statement confirmed on Friday evening: "Juan has had surgery for a groin injury. Further updates on his recovery will follow in due course."
However, as per goal.com, the Spain international may yet feature before the end of the campaign following a successful operation.
Mata, who has played a key role for his side this season by scoring 10 goals and providing six assists in all competitions, has now joined the growing list of absentees as the Reds head into a crucial stage of the season.
United manager Jose Mourinho had previously ruled out three injured players for Saturday's Premier League match against West Bromwich Albion - Phil Jones, Chris Smalling and Paul Pogba - while Ander Herrera and Zlatan Ibrahimovic are both suspended.
