Judiciary viewed as shield for common man against abuse of power: CJI

Chief Justice of India (CJI) P. Sathasivam has said that the judiciary is viewed as a shield for the common man against abuse of power and arbitrariness.

Inaugurating the additional building of the Guwahati High Court here yesterday, Sathasivam said that he has asked the Chief Justices of high courts to identify pending cases with a priority basis particularly towards women, juvenile and anti-corruption cases for speedy disposal.

Chief minister Tarun Gogoi, Supreme Court judges, justices Ranjan Gogoi, J Chelameswar and A K Patnaik, GHC chief justice A K Goel, GHC judge I A Ansari, speaker Pranab Gogoi, Assam law minister Tanka Bahadur Rai and Gauhati High Court Bar Association president K N Choudhury, among other dignitaries, were present at the inaugural function.
