Researchers have recently claimed that two simple questions will help people decide if they are in love.
The questions are; "How happy are you in your marriage relative to how happy you would be if you weren't in the marriage?" and "How do you think your spouse answered that question?" the Independent reported.
University of Virginia economists Leora Friedberg and Steven Stern asked this to 4,242 couples twice, six years apart and analyzing the data recently found that those who thought they would be no worse off single were more likely to now be broken up.
Only 40.9 percent of participants could accurately identify how their partner felt about their relationship, which was at the root of many relationship problems.
According to bargaining theory, misjudging the spouse's emotions could lead people to bargain "too hard" and unwittingly precipitate a split.
