Justice H L Dattu is likely to be the next Chief Justice of India after incumbent R M Lodha retires on September 27.
According to reports, Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad had earlier written to CJI Lodha asking him to recommend the person for the coveted post.
The government has reportedly cleared the name of Justice Dattu, who is heading the bench that is monitoring investigations into the sensitive 2G spectrum scam, for the topmost judicial post.
