ANI New Delhi [India]

SpiceJet airline's flight number SG 21 operating from New Delhi to Kabul City was diverted back to the Indian capital after the Kabul Air Traffic Control (ATC) informed that the airport was closed.

This comes after several rockets were fired close to Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul just hours after the United States Defence Secretary James Mattis landed to hold talks with President Ashraf Ghani.

Twenty to thirty rockets had landed at Hamid Karzai International Airport in the center of Kabul.

Following the attack Kabul airport was evacuated and all flights were cancelled.

SpiceJet Spokesperson said, flight was over Kabul airspace when pilots were informed by the Kabul ATC that airport has been closed.

The Spokesperson further said that they are monitoring the situation and the flight will be operated after all operational parameters are met.

Airline will also arrange a special Delhi-Kabul flight tomorrow in the afternoon.
