Dravida Munnettra Kazhagam (DMK) leader Kanimozhi on Saturday filed her nomination papers for the Rajya Sabha polls scheduled for June 27.

Her present term comes to a close on July 24.

Kanimozhi filed her papers before Tamil Nadu State Assembly secretary A M P Jamaludeen. Her brother and former deputy chief minister M. K. Stalin, senior DMK leaders Duraimurugan, T R Baalu and 22 DMK MLAs, accompanied her

Kanimozhi had earlier sought the blessings of her father and DMK chief M.Karunanidhi and the party's general secretary K Anbazhagan before proceeding to the secretariat to file her nomination.

Six Rajya Sabha seats will fall vacant in Tamil Nadu in July.

While the ruling AIADMK, which has 151 MLAs in the 234-member assembly, nominated five of its senior leaders, speculation is rife over the contest for the sixth seat. The DMK, which is short of the required number, has been wooing actor-turned-politician Vijayakanth's DMDK and the CPM.
