The more than 5-hour siege laid by heavily armed militants, which claimed at least the lives of 23 people, including security personnel at Karachi airport is now over, a Pakistan army spokesperson has revealed.

Ten militants were also among the dead.

The security forces conducted an operation in the wee hours of Monday morning during which reportedly five SMGs, three suicide jackets, two rocket launchers and 12 petrol bombs were recovered.

Asim Bajwa, spokesman of the Inter Services Pubic Relations (ISPR), said that the militants "were confined to two areas and eliminated," Dawn.com reported.

Militants, who were wearing security personnel's uniforms, entered the airport with the help of forged ID cards and made use of machine guns and a rocket launcher to lay their siege on Sunday

No group has claimed responsibility, however, Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan is being suspected of masterminding the attack.
