Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP from Karnataka, Pratap Sinha, has urged Chief Minister K. Siddaramaiah to take stern steps against anti-national and anti-social elements in the state, following the death threat he has received on Facebook.

"I have every reason to believe that they have threatened me openly only because of the support of the state government or because of the callous attitude of the state government. I request the Chief Minister to take stern step action against these kinds of anti-national and anti-social elements," Sinha told ANI here.

"Day before yesterday, I got the Face book message. They have posted the martyr Kutappa along with my photo and they have threatened me you are also going to meet with the same fate," he said.

"Immediately I alerted the police commissioner and I gave an oral complain to the nearest police station. Till now, nothing has been done, no arrest has taken place," he added.

The BJP MP expressed his dissent over the threat and raised question on the law and order situation of the state.

"My simple question is if an MP can be threatened like this in a social website than think of the law and order situation of the state," he said.

"We should accommodate dissenting voices, it might be right or left. But dissenting voices are there and we should accept it and tolerate it. But if this kind of intolerance was shown by the followers of secular Tipu, if Tipu was really secular, his followers would not have threatened me like this," he added.

Sinha had on yesterday filed a complaint alleging that he has received a death threat for opposing the birth anniversary of Tipu Sultan.

Sinha had said earlier that the state government was spreading hatred by celebrating Tipu's birth anniversary.

The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) has been protesting against the Congress government's decision to honour Tipu Sultan, who according to them was a tyrant who persecuted Hindus and Christians.
