The Karnataka Police on Thursday seized substantial quantities of bomb-making chemicals and equipment in simultaneous raids conducted in Bangalore and Bhatkal.

The police also arrested three people during the raids.

"The Bangalore City Police and the Internal Security Division of the Karnataka State Police has conducted raids in Bangalore and Bhatkal town of the North Canara district. In both these locations, a lot of incriminating material has been seized," Bangalore City Police Commissioner M N Reddi told mediapersons.

"In the raid conducted in Bangalore, we found lots of electronic equipment, communication equipment and laptops. In Bhatkal, we have seized substantial quantity of explosive material. We have seized ammonium nitrate, gelatine, detonators, electronic timer devices, digital circuits, PVC pipes and fuel oil. These materials hint towards bomb making in large scale," he added.

Reddi further said that the police have arrested three people while conducting raids and hinted that these individuals might belong to the banned organisation Indian Mujahideen (IM).

"We have arrested three people in Bhatkal in this matter. The information we have suggests that these people belong to IM. We have the information to believe that these three were acting on the instructions of someone else," Reddi said.

A blast outside a restaurant on Church Street of the city in December 2014 led to the death of a woman while injuring three others. The blast was triggered by an Improvised Explosive Device.
