Afghan President Hamid Karzai has blocked a draft on domestic abuse, calling for alterations to protect women rights.

The draft was seeking to silence victims of domestic violence, forced marriage and child abuse and demanded major revisions after a campaign by Afghan activists and western diplomats.

According to the Guardian, the legislation bans relatives from testifying against each other.

The provision was inserted into a new criminal prosecution code at the last minute.
