Srinagar received season's first snowfall on Sunday and put an end to long dry spell in the valley.
The fresh snowfall brought cheers on the faces of residents who were eagerly waiting for the snowfall. However, it also brought trouble for the commuters as traffic on National Highway was affected and even flights were cancelled.
"We are very happy to see season's first snowfall. This snowfall is after the culmination of Chillai Kalan. We enjoy the snow and it is very good for health," said a resident, Abdul Majeed.
The 40-day long Chillai Kalan is believed to be the harshest winter period in the valley. The temperature was recorded at minus two degree Celsius on Sunday.
On Sunday many people were also seen sitting next to bonfire to keep themselves warm.
Reportedly, the valley would receive heavy snowfall in the next three days.
It would bring some relief to people as health problems associated with dry winters would also end. Moreover, the snowfall would help increase water level in rivers and streams.
