The Hurriyat Conference on Monday called for a shutdown in Jammu and Kashmir on the occasion of Infantry Day.

The Hurriyat Conference also demanded for complete demilitarisation of the state.

All shops and business establishments remained closed and traffic was off the roads in Srinagar. The banks, educational institutions and government offices also remained closed. The streets wore a deserted look in Srinagar.

According to Hurriyat Conference, the shutdown is based on the struggle faced by Kashmiris since the arrival of Indian Army into Jammu and Kashmir on October 27, 1947, when the princely state was under attack by the tribal raiders supported by the troops of the Pakistani Army.
