People of Jammu and Kashmir grappled with dense fog and harsh weather conditions as temperatures in the region dipped as low as minus one degree Centigrade on Thursday morning.

The Dal Lake, which is one of the major tourist attractions in Srinagar, was seen deserted without visitors.

A dense fog had enveloped roads of Srinagar, leading to poor visibility.

"There is a lot of fog these days and it is becoming very difficult to drive. The weather remains like this till around 10.30 am. It has also become really cold here and on top of that there aren't many tourists coming here either," said Sameer Bhat, who is a driver.

The intense cold has forced residents to stay within the warm confines of their homes, but school children and office-goers struggle to go out.
