The Duchess of Cambridge wore the tiara to the annual Diplomatic Reception at Buckingham Palace with Prince William, reports E! Online.

The 'Lover's Knot' tiara, which belonged to the late Princess Diana, was gifted from Queen Elizabeth II on her wedding day in 1981 to Prince Charles.

This was the first time anyone has worn the piece since Diana's tragic death in 1997.

The tiara contains swinging pearls hanging from 19 diamond arches capped with lover's knots, some of which were composed by Queen Mary's jewels from her collection.
