Kathmandu airport shut down following 7.9 magnitude earthquake

The Kathmandu airport has been shut down following a massive earthquake of 7.9 magnitude in Nepal resulting in the cancellation of Indian flights bound for the capital city.

According to Kantipur TV, the earthquake has left scores dead in the capital city of Nepal.

Hospital buildings in Kathmandu were evacuated as patients moved outside.

Nepal ambassador to India, Deep K Upadhyay said that, according to reports of social media and other sources, around 100 people have died and that the number may increase.

The earthquake was reportedly 31 km deep and tremors were felt as far as New Delhi and other northern and eastern cities in India.
