The Uttarakhand Government has temporarily suspended trekking for pilgrims to Kedarnath Temple in view of their safety.
The pilgrims will now not be allowed to trek to the temple after 1:30 p.m.
However, Cabinet Minister Madan Kaushik said the restriction was imposed due to adverse weather conditions.
"There is no complete prohibition as the distance from Gaurikund to Kedarnath is only about 22 km. The DM has the authority to suspend the yatra and he has done it keeping in view the weather conditions. It is not completely halted. It will begin once weather conditions are normal," Kaushik told ANI.
The trek route from Gaurikund to Kedarnath, which stretches to almost 14 km, was washed away in the 2013 flash floods. It was later rebuilt and the distance between the two places was increased.
