Kejriwal-Jung row will shatter morale of civil servants: Congress

Row between L-G and the CM began after Jung appointed Shakuntala Gamlin as the acting Chief Secretary despite strong opposition from Kejriwal

The Congress party on Wednesday said the ongoing tussle between Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung will shatter the morale of the civil service officers and affect administration.

"The Governor's office and Chief Minister's officer are responsible for this ruckus. This is totally unnecessary, there is no issue involved in this. After the Chief Secretary appointment which was controversial, the morale of the officers of the civil service will be completely shattered and that will affect the administration. Both the senior people should understand that," Congress leader P.C. Chacko told ANI.

"Both of them have met the President of India. He is a very senior administrator and he will give them the right advice to resolve this issue," he added.

The row between the LG and the Chief Minister began after Jung appointed senior bureaucrat Shakuntala Gamlin as the acting Chief Secretary despite strong opposition from Kejriwal.

The Kejriwal government had levelled serious allegations against Gamlin accusing her of being extremely close to power distribution companies in Delhi.

Kejriwal also sent her a letter asking her not to take up the post as, according to him, her appointment was against rules.

Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia has, meanwhile, called a meeting of all the Secretaries and Chief Secretaries today.
