Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) chief Ajay Maken on Monday termed Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's demand for referendum on statehood for the national capital as unconstitutional, claiming that the AAP supremo purposely raises issues in order to cause conflict with the Central Government.

"This is a very dangerous idea of referendum as proposed by Kejriwal and this is not only unconstitutional but it is anti-national as well. In different parts of our country, be it a union territory like Delhi, there have been occasional demands of granting of full statehood. And in many autonomous councils, they are asking for union territories status or special status," he told ANI.

"Chief Minister Kejriwal purposely raises issues which cause conflict with Central Government and distract from his failures," he added.

According to reports, Kejriwal has asked the urban development department to come up with a feasibility report specifying a timeline for full statehood of Delhi.
