Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday reminded auto-rickshaw drivers of the national capital of their responsibilities, urging them to serve the people of Delhi with honesty.

"Many of the drivers don't go by metre and then overcharge. You have the responsibility to serve the people. Your every demand would be fulfilled but if the citizens complain against you then stringent action would be taken," Kejriwal said, addressing auto-rickshaw drivers at a public meeting.

He further said that a helpline number - 42400400 would soon be operational, wherein complaints on 'refusal' and 'overcharging' would be taken.

The Chief Minister further made some announcements taken by the Transport Department.

"If an auto-rickshaw driver is heading towards home, he can put a board proclaiming his destination. If you get a passenger on the way, then you can allow him/her to board, else you can refuse the passenger," Kejriwal said.

Kejriwal also announced the process of the construction of auto stands in the entire city.

"You demanded for auto stands to be made in the entire city: the construction of 400 auto stands is in progress, while another 100 are complete," he said.

"The condition of showing Class 8 certificate has been scrapped for the renewing of driver's license," he added.

Kejriwal also said that a committee has been formed to increase the fare of auto rickshaws.

"The committee will create a formula and with the help of a formula, every year on April 1, the auto fare would be hiked automatically according to that formula. And, this formula would not be created without taking your suggestion," he added.
